This week Samantha turned 3 months old on the 16th. It's amazing how fast she is growing. Sometimes I look at her, especially when I see her laying down all stretched out, and she looks so long! We got her weighed last Tuesday, and she was 15 pounds, 11 ounces, so her weight has definitely leveled off from when she was a newborn.
My next section of this blog post has to do with Samantha's sleeping. She has been sleeping much better during the day, and Ben has been a real trooper in helping Samantha get used to her crib. Most naps during the day he is able to put her down in either her crib or pack n' play, which is a great improvement from a month ago. We have also decided to start trying to get Samantha to sleep in her crib in her own room rather than next to our bed in the pack n' play. We tried it for the first time on Saturday night, and we had our mattress in her room on the floor, so that she would feel a little more comfortable sleeping in her crib with us still in the room. She did pretty well this night, but still woke up a lot more frequently than what is normal for her lately. Sunday night we tried again, but this time it was an unsuccessful attempt. It was almost like she wasn't tired enough when we laid her down, and she woke up right away. We had to end up just bringing her into our room again. Monday night we tried to tire her out a little more before we put her down for the night, and it seemed to work. She slept in her crib in her own room from about 9:45 to about 3:00. After that, I brought her back into our room to feed her, and then just put her to sleep in her pack n' play. We will continue to try putting her in her crib, and eventually I think we will have success and she will sleep through the night in her own room!
Also, another random thing with sleeping, this past week when Ben was with Samantha during the day, she was on her tummy for tummy time, and she actually fell asleep that way on her boppy pillow for almost an hour and a half! I have the picture posted here. She is so adorable!
With school continuing on this week, things have gotten progressively better from the last time that I posted about starting back at school. Once things calmed down and schedules became more set, I was able to not be as stressed out and because of that and possibly a combination of a new hospital-grade pump and an herbal supplement to help my milk supply, pumping at school and getting enough milk for Samantha during the day was much easier. Also, since I've started back at school it seems like Samantha has spaced out her feedings a lot more during the day, and is wanting to nurse more when I am home with her in the evenings. I read somewhere that breastfed babies will do this because they like spending time with their moms breastfeeding, and I have to admit that I enjoy the time as well.
Samantha has been increasingly interactive over the weeks, and it is something that we really enjoy. The other day we had her in her blue chair that vibrates and has a toy bar hanging over the seat. Ben helped her to grab onto one of the rings on a toy where you pull it and it makes noise. He showed her how to do it, and then she kept holding onto it herself, and pulled it to make it make noise herself! It was really cool to see her playing with a toy by herself, even if she wasn't necessarily doing it on purpose. She has also been laughing a lot more, and they are real laughs too! One night I was holding Samantha after some friends had left, and Ben was on the stairs, jumped down a couple stairs right in front of her, and she just thought it was hilarious and laughed so hard. We normally can't get her laughing recorded, but we did this time! If the above picture doesn't let you play it, go to on this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnsmpRy6R_w and watch it on You Tube. It will put a smile on anyone's face.
Well, the Toll family is continuing to make the adjustment into me being back at work, things are getting better, and luckily I have a lot of help from parents at school, but that still doesn't change the fact that it is hard leaving her every day, and that I would rather be at home with her. However, I am going to try not to dwell on that on this post, as well as in my daily thinking. I need to stay positive, enjoy the life and situation that God has put me in, and not always be looking for something more or something better, which is a problem I've had for most of my life.
So, I am going to end this post with things that I love about Samantha. I love the way she holds onto your fingers with her strong grip when you hold her, or when I'm nursing her. I love the way she will put her hand on yours when you put your hand on her chest to comfort her when you are trying to get her to fall asleep. She does it almost as if she is trying to hold onto you and make sure that you can't leave her. I love the way she stretches out in the morning when she wakes up, and sometimes you can even see her feet sticking straight up out of her pack n' play. I also love that huge toothless smile that she gives you when she sees you for the first time in the morning, or the smile that I get when I get home from school in the afternoon. I even love her pouty face that shows up just before she is about to burst out into crying. I love that we have such a social baby, that she loves to be around us, and loves to interact with us. That really makes it all worth while, and makes us really excited for the days and weeks to come.
